One of 4 rules to personal money management and budgeting. Do this one thing first and watch everything else fall into place.
There is no better feeling in the world than being generous with your resources. The proverb that says: “It is better to give than to receive” is so true, and has stood the test of time.
Giving to the needs of others makes their world better, in turn makes your world better, and in general makes everybody’s world better.
In the times we live in, giving has never been easier. U.S. law allows for non-profit organizations to work charity and in turn allows you to take a deduction from your taxes for your giving (consult an accountant for details). So, it turns out, giving can provide a financial benefit to you while doing good for others.
It’s truly a win, win situation.
Ever heard the saying “what goes around comes around”? Well this is true for generosity, caring, charity, benevolence and more…
Challenge yourself to be generous and watch how “the measure by which you give will measured back to you” in many ways.
You might say: Why 10%? Ask yourself: Why not? Maybe your number is 5% maybe your number is 30%. It’s certainly a choice that is relative to your financial situation but the point of a budget is set goals and accomplish them.
10% is a good place to start and based on what was mentioned on the last page, wouldn’t it be great to be able to give the largest percentage of your income as possible?
Good things come to those who give and you’ll find out soon enough that the benefits are far reaching, including to your overall health and well-being and it makes it so worth it.
However it shakes out for you, pick your number and stick to it. Be disciplined, thoughtful and purposeful about your giving.
What is your passion? What do you see that makes you think, “I wish I could do something about that?” Do your research on what fits those questions and just do it. Make it the first thing you do when you sit down to pay bills.
Are there scams? YES, but that’s why you do your due diligence. Would giving cash to a street corner vagrant be a good idea? Maybe! Every situation is unique, use your best judgment and if you do give money to the homeless man holding a sign on the side of the road, leave it in God’s hands and be happy that you did something good.
You absolutely can not go wrong being generous!
JUST DO IT!!!
